Our Plastic Baler Range: Vertical and Horizontal
A plastic baler squeezes loose plastic waste into dense, recyclable bales. Our balers reach a compaction ratio of 8:1 compared with loose material, so the plastic that used to overflow cages, bins and corners of your site takes up a fraction of the space.
We supply two main types of plastic baler: vertical and horizontal. The right one for you depends mostly on how much plastic waste you produce, and how quickly it builds up.
Vertical plastic balers
Compact vertical balers are ideal for bales of up to 600kg. You load them by hand through the door, so they work well where plastic builds up steadily through the day, such as shops, warehouses, distribution centres and smaller manufacturing units.
The Europress Balex range shown above runs from the Balex 10, with 10 tonnes of compaction force, up to the Balex 50, with 50 tonnes. Every model is a low-height design, which helps where ceiling height is tight.
Horizontal plastic balers
Our industrial horizontal balers are built for businesses producing more than 2 tonnes of waste material a day, and they handle bales of up to 1,000kg. They come in semi-automatic and fully automatic versions, and are designed and manufactured in the UK. The KH40 semi-automatic baler, for example, can process plastic film and plastic bottles.

How a Plastic Baler Works
Every plastic baler in our range is driven by a hydraulic system. All our plastic balers follow the same simple cycle. Day to day, making a bale looks like this:
- Thread baling wire or strapping through the machine.
- Open the top door and load your plastic waste.
- Close the door and let the hydraulic ram press the waste down.
- Keep loading and pressing until the bale is full.
- When the full light comes on, tie off the bale with the wire or strapping.
- Eject the finished bale onto a pallet, ready to move or store.
One machine for plastic and cardboard
Every Europress baler on this page has two modes of operation, one for cardboard and one for plastics. If your site produces both, a single machine can handle each waste stream in turn, and keeping the bales separate means each one stays clean enough to recycle.
Built for safe, quiet use
A key-operated lock switch comes fitted as standard, so only staff who hold the key can run the baler. The Europress balers on this page are also very quiet, running at 59 dB, which makes them easier to place near shop floors, offices or busy loading bays.
Space and storage
Before choosing a spot, think about the space for the baler itself and for the finished bales waiting to be collected. Bales come out on a pallet, so they can be stacked neatly rather than left as loose plastic that gets in the way of your operations. Placing the baler close to where plastic is unpacked, such as goods-in, also cuts down the time staff spend carrying waste across the site.
What Plastics Can a Plastic Baler Handle?
Our plastic balers are designed to handle most types of plastic, including PVC, HDPE, LDPE, PET and PP. Different machines suit different plastics, though, so it pays to check that the plastic baler you choose matches the waste your site actually produces.
Soft plastics (LDPE film and wrap)
This is usually the biggest volume on site: stretch film, pallet wrap, shrink wrap, polythene sheeting and plastic bags stripped from deliveries. It weighs little but fills bins fast, so baling it is where most businesses see the quickest saving on space and collections.
PP and PVC
PP is common in strapping, woven sacks and some rigid packaging. PVC turns up in some packaging and offcuts. If your waste includes these, tell us what you have and we will check which machine handles it best. Keeping each type of plastic separate before baling also makes the finished bales easier to recycle.
Bottles and rigid plastics (PET and HDPE)
PET covers clear drinks bottles and food packaging. HDPE covers thicker items such as milk bottles, containers and crates. Rigid plastics need more compaction force than film, so they are best matched to a heavier-duty machine. Our horizontal range includes balers that process plastic bottles.
Recycling returns
The type of plastic also matters once it leaves your site. Different plastics can earn different returns when they are baled and recycled, and clean, well-sorted bales are easier to recycle. Knowing exactly what you produce helps you get the most from your plastic waste.

We look at the types and volumes of plastic waste your business produces and how you handle it now. From there we recommend the plastic baler that suits your site and point you towards the recycling options that make most sense for your plastics. There is no obligation to go ahead.
Installation and training
When you buy from Kenburn, our qualified engineers deliver, install and commission your baler to the manufacturer's guidelines, with a risk assessment and method statement for every installation. With every installation we train up to three of your staff at no extra cost, and each one receives an individual certificate. Refresher training is available for existing operators too.
Servicing, warranty and finance
New Europress Balex balers come with a two-year warranty. Our engineers are based across the country, and we offer annual support and maintenance agreements covering routine servicing, safety checks and breakdown support. If you would rather not buy outright, we offer three or five year rental, plus refurbished machines with a twelve-month warranty. Our refurbished balers are typically ex-rental machines, cleaned, stripped down and re-sprayed in our St Albans workshops.

Yes. As well as buying outright, you can choose a three or five year rental, which avoids a large upfront cost. At the end of the term you can keep renting, return the machine or replace it with a new one. Refurbished machines are also available.
