Carpet Craft Flooring based in Redcar recently took delivery of a carpet crusher from Kenburn in order to compact their waste carpet for recycling. Carpet Craft Flooring’s Managing Director Mark Lilleker commented, ‘We visited the Flooring Show at Harrogate in September and on visiting the Kenburn stand we were intrigued by a large yellow carpet crushing machine.’
Kenburn informed us that with 30 tonnes of compaction force the “carpet crusher” would compact our carpet waste on a 4:1 compaction ratio and we were delighted to discover their claims were 100% accurate.
By using the “carpet crusher” all our waste polypropylene off cuts are recycled into equestrian flooring and all our old carpet waste mixed together with old underlay is converted into refuse derived fuel (RDF) and used to power concrete kilns.’
‘As part of our commitment to the environment and our terms within the MOD contract we hold, we’re now operating on a ‘zero to landfill’ policy which not only prevents hundreds of tonnes of waste carpet and underlay going to landfill every year it also at the same time saves us thousands of pounds a year in skip costs so it’s a ‘win-win’ scenario.’
As members of Carpet Recycling UK, Kenburn visit flooring contractors and retailers throughout the UK offering free impartial advice on how best to recycle waste carpet.
We also act as the link between the flooring companies and recyclers to ensure the most cost effective way to recycle your waste carpet and underlay. With EU legislation being introduced to ban any carpet waste from going to landfill now may be the ideal time to arrange a brief waste survey.
